Apple ‘Espaliered 2 Tier’

Malus domestica ‘Macintosh’, ‘Norland’

Zone: 3
Exposure: Sun
Mature Size: As Pruned
Flower Color: White flowers with pink shell overtones
Fruit ripening time: August – Mid September
Fruit Color, Size, and Taste:
Macintosh – Bright red, crispy, juicy, aromatic, 3″ wide
Norland – Red streaked, sweet and crisp, 2.5″ wide
Pollination:  Will cross-pollinate itself. No additional apple tree is required for fruit.

Description: Trees trained in this way can be a great space saver. Espaliered trees can make a noticeable difference to the flavour of the fruit, compared with free-standing trees as more of the trees energy is put into the fruit rather than vegetative growth. Blooms in spring.

Ornamental Features: The term ‘espalier’ is the horticultural practice that has come to mean any tree or shrub that can be trained flat against a trellis, wall or other support. Tasty, edible fruit.

Landscape Attributes: Excellent espaliered form. Great for smaller spaces.. Best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed.
